Van Wormer Resorts Fishing Report 9/3/10

by Eddie Dalmau, Van Wormer Resorts

We are still seeing nice size yellowfin tuna and they are not very far out. Some of the best fishing this week was right in the Bay of Palmas, directly in front of most East Cape resorts. Anglers could find schools of Dorado, Yellowfin, Pargo, Pampano and bonitas just a few miles from the dock. As most know, that is not usually the case, but for several days this week anglers enjoyed the short boat ride to the fishing grounds. Not all the fishing was close enough to see land. The Marlin and Sails were tougher than usual this week. We did see some nice Striped Marlin and Sailfish out there, but with the inshore action being as good as it was this week, many decided to stay close. We are still seeing some nice Roosters near the beach at Punta Colorada, with the biggest this week coming in at 45lbs. The Squid have moved on and most anglers are now using sardines, mullet, frozen ballyhoo, and lures. This week’s picture is from Jim Gallivan of Santa Clarita, CA who landed this nice 35lb. Dorado while fishing out of Hotel Palmas De Cortez. Jim was on the super panga Splash II with captain Ernesto. The dorado was landed while in a tuna boil near Punta Pescadero. Having landed 5 medium size tuna, Jim threw back another sardine and to his surprise hooked this nice Dorado.

That’s it for this week amigos!
